Maria Abakumova has been stripped of worlds title 2011 for doping

Maria Abakumova and her fellow athlete Tatyana Lebedeva have been stripped of three world championships medals after the reanalysis of their samples, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said.

Results of Abakumova have been canceled from August 2008 to August 2012 which means she is losing gold medal from 2011 Daegu and bronze from 2009 Berlin world championships. It is not the first time those two athletes are losing their accomplishments. They were already disqualified from the 2008 Beijing Olympic games.

By Abakumova being disqualified from Daegu 2011. Barbora Spotakova now has three world championships titles.

Statement of Barbora Spotakova:

I have to say I have thought about it before but still I'm surprised a lot today. Of course, third world championship title sounds nice. I would like to say it had no negative influence to my career. Abakumova actually had a positive impact on my career since she motivated me to amazing performances. I cannot even say I feel satisfaction I don't think about it this way. It’s more sad but it is what it is. I have different things to think of now. Taking care of my children. Anyway in this moment I am a happy and I think we will throw a small celebration party tonight. I’m looking forward to continental cup where I’m going to watch with my whole family.

Many will remember that night. It was one of the peak moments during the XXIX Olympic game in Beijing. Maria Abakumova was in the lead of women javelin final with astonishing performance 70.78m. Roughly after fourth round rain started falling and everybody thought the final is over. Despite the rain in the very last round Barbora Spotakova threw sensational 71.42m and claimed her first Olympic gold medal. And now Abakumova is being crossed from the results table.

Abakumova was tested positive for the anabolic steroid turinabol during the reanalysis of samples from two Olympic games which is IOC conducting. Beijing silver medal is now on its way to Christina Obergföll and Goldie Sayers will receive her first olympic medal.

Abakumova was not the only athlete who lost their medals from Beijing.
